A German Bank explains #FATCA to its customers who are #Americansabroad – It’s #FATCASpeak really

FATCA – “The New Tax Law For Americans Abroad” is an interesting video.

The title: FATCA: “The New Law FOR U.S. Citizens Abroad” almost makes it seem like a benefit/gift for U.S. citizens abroad.

Put it this way:

“It’s 11:00 p.m. – Are you lonely in your country of residence? Your Homeland is thinking of you!”

Clever use of language! Soon German citizens will want a “Home Grown FATCA” for them too.

Well, I guess it’s an example of FATCASpeak.

It makes FATCA  seem perfectly logical, reasonable and explainable. It suggests that it’s really no big deal at all. In fact, watching this video I have the impression, that like Canada’s TD Bank, this bank will make FATCA a comfortable experience for those affected.

Funny that this video does not explain how FATCA will be used to enslave the world – including Germany. This will require only two easy steps – really!


On FATCASpeak and the power of language, consider this:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among men, deriving their powers from the consent of the governed. It would have been quite impossible to render this into FATCASpeak while keeping to the sense of the original. The nearest one could come to doing so would be to swallow the whole passage up in the single word crimethink. A full translation could only be an ideological translation, whereby Jefferson’s words would be changed into a panegyric on absolute government.

A good deal of the literature of the past was, indeed, already being transformed in this way. Considerations of prestige made it desirable to preserve the memory of certain historical figures, while at the same time bringing their achievements into line with the philosophy of Amtot.
