I am increasingly convinced that the November 6 Presidential election is the most important election in my lifetime. If I am right, that would also make it the most important election in your lifetime. The United States of America – AKA “Form Nation” – is in a state of paralysis. Here we are October 29, 2012 and Americans don’t even know what rate of tax they will be paying next year. For example:
- the Bush tax cuts are due to expire. If nothing is done, the rate of tax on dividends will rise from 15% to more than 40%
- the Capital Gains tax rate will be increasing. (Should people sell their stocks?)
- Massive changes could be made in the Estate tax (people can’t even tell whether it’s a good idea to die this year)
These are not small differences but changes that are certain to be very damaging to the economy.
Many commentators have opined that the US is becoming a police state. Although this is true, it is also becoming a banana republic. Is there another country in the industrialized world that behaves so irresponsibly? I don’t know, but I don’t think so.
It’s time for all participants to “roll up their sleeves” and work together. This is no time (if there every was one) for political games. Funny, I remember a candidate for president in 2008, saying something like this:
There is not a Democrat America. There is not a Republican America. There is only the United States of America.
This was the candidate who was going to end the political games in Washington. That candidate was elected and is now one of the most (if not the most) divisive and polarizing President in American History. For that reason alone, Barack Obama must be voted out of office.
Funny, wasn’t Mitt Romney a Republican governor is a state where the vast majority of people in the Legislature were Democrats? Perhaps one should view the choice on November 6 as a choice between:
A man who is polarizing and divisive and has proven who cannot work with others;
or
A man who has proven that he can work with others.
Actually, there really is no choice!
I predict that Barack Obama will lose the November 6 presidential election.
