Schumer and the rest of much of the U.S. believes that ANYONE who renounces U.S. citizenship is despicable. The problems that Schumer fails to address is what would constitute a legitimate reason for giving up U.S. citizenship? And just how long of a period of time going forward should one be obligated to retain U.S. citizenship just for the sole purpose of having the privilige to pay U.S. taxes?
Schumer and the others really have no answer to either of these questions other than to say that there are NO reasons to give up U.S. citizenship. In the eyes of most Americans U.S. citizenship is a relationship that you can’t ever leave.
Instead you are forever obligated to be the play thing on the edge of the string of the U.S. Congress.
